Making Moments

Today was awesome in a lot of senses.

The first of which, in our leadership class today, we did a great thing: we made a moment. One girl in the class, confessed to us in a speech, that she is afraid of swimming. Therefore, we did the logical leadership action: asked her if we could spend one class teaching her how to swim. So today, with the help of Mr. S and one of the other students, we supported and helped this girl to face her fear of the water.

As she was in the pool, the rest of the class was cheering her on and writing her positive and heart-felt notes to give to her later. At the end of class, when she came out of the locker room, the whole class attacked her with cheers of encouragement and an amazing group hug.

During the period, I just said casually to Mr. U "This will be a moment she will always remember about Leadership Class." He responded, "We're making moments".

We talked about it later and we/I realized that I kind of live for making moments. That is what I love to do. Today, it felt so good doing something awesome like this for this girl, seeing the class being so supportive and compassionate for just one person, putting away the thoughts and concerns of their own lives to focus on someone else. That's a moment. Making someone feel special. Giving them a feeling that we stay in their memory forever. Making a moment.
